Privacy Policy
The short version: Casual Hebrew doesn't collect, store or share any personal data. There are no accounts, no ads, no analytics and no tracking. Your progress is saved only on your device.
Who we are
Casual Hebrew is an app for learning everyday spoken Hebrew, built by David Lebee. This policy covers the Casual Hebrew apps for iPhone and Android and this website.
What the app stores
The app keeps a small file on your device with:
- the level you're on,
- which words you got right or wrong in study and quiz sessions, and when,
- your settings, such as speech speed and whether nikud is shown.
This data never leaves your device. We don't have a server, so we can't see it. Deleting the app deletes it, and you can erase it any time with Settings → Reset progress in the app. If your phone backs up apps to iCloud or Google, the file may be included in that backup, which your platform's own privacy terms cover.
What the app doesn't collect
We don't collect your name, email, contacts, location, device identifiers, usage analytics or crash reports. The app has no sign-in and contains no advertising or third-party tracking code.
Audio
When you tap a play button, the app uses your phone's built-in text-to-speech to read the Hebrew aloud. On iPhone this runs on the device. On Android it uses whichever speech engine you've set up, which is governed by that engine provider's privacy policy. The app doesn't record audio and doesn't use the microphone.
The word list
All words, sentences and translations ship inside the app, so it works without an internet connection. The data comes from open sources: OpenSubtitles via FrequencyWords (CC BY-SA 4.0), Tatoeba (CC BY 2.0 FR), Wiktionary via kaikki.org (CC BY-SA 4.0) and Universal Dependencies Hebrew (CC BY-SA 4.0).
Beta testing
If you test a pre-release version through Apple TestFlight or Google Play testing, Apple or Google may share basic information with us, such as your name or email, the device you used, crash reports, and any feedback you choose to send. We use this only to fix and improve the app. Apple's and Google's own privacy policies cover how they handle that data.
This website
This site is hosted on GitHub Pages and loads fonts from Google Fonts. Like any web host, GitHub and Google may log your IP address and browser details when you visit. We don't add any analytics or cookies of our own.
Children
The app collects no personal data from anyone, including children under 13.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update it here and change the effective date above. If the app ever starts collecting data, this page will say so before that version is released.
